1891

Isidor Teller founded company

Josef Teller - Accessories for stringed and plugged instruments

The Tellers are an ancient violin making family whose history can be traced back as far as the 18th century. There are records from 1826 in the village of Schönbach (now in Czechoslovakia) where Josef Teller's grandfather is listed as a violin maker. In 1891, Isidor founded a manufacture for bridges for stringed instruments which rapidly became a leader in his field.

1935

Josef Teller takes over company

Josef Teller became an apprentice bridgemaker in his father's workshop at the age of 14, taking over the business in 1935 under his name. At this time, bridges were exported to many countries; the main customers were the USA, England, Poland, Hungary, Germany and Czechoslovakia.

1938

Closure of company

1938 saw a dramatic decline in exports in all export orientated industries such as this one and eventually, the company closed.

1947

Re-establishment

Following relocation in 1947 to a small village near Bad Windsheim (West Germany) the Tellers resumed operations using self-designed machines and tools made by the local blacksmith. The business soon began to blossom. The only workers were: His wife, his daughter and the future daughter-in-law, Gusti. Artur Teller followed in 1948.

1952

Move to Bubenreuth

In 1952, the workshops were transferred to the town of Bubenreuth (near Nürnberg). A comprehensive program of finished products was developed. At this time the company had 11 workers.

1964

Partnership

Josef Teller accepted his sons Artur and Walter as partners

1968

Expansion of the company

By 1968, the workshops were transferred to a new building on a 6000 sq. metre plot. The high quality of production was guaranteed by experienced workers who had been with the company for twenty years and by the many well-trained young workers.

1974

Building of warehouse for wood

A warehouse for storing large quantities of naturally aged wood for making bridges as well as rooms for storing exotic woods such as rosewood and ebony, were built.

 

1980

New Office Building

1985

New company partner is Artur's Son Manfred Teller

1985 the senior partner, Josef Teller, resigned from partnership in May 1985. But he made his vast knowledge and experience available to the company until his death in February 1990.

1991

100 Years of tradition

The founders principles of high quality and versatility, which have been a tradition in the company for 100 years, represent a commitment as well as a challenge for the future.

2003

Josef Teller company exhibits in China

 

2006

The 5th Generation

Since April 2006 is with Bastian Teller, son of Manfred Teller,
the 5th generation working in the company.
